Adviser to TheCityUK and the lead on Islamic Finance
Before establishing his own consultancy Wayne Evans was Director International Strategy at TheCityUK, the leading independent, national membership body created to promote the UK financial and related professional services industry. Through his consultancy he is now a Senior Adviser at TheCityUK and leads on Islamic Finance issues.
As part of TheCityUK Leadership Team, Wayne was responsible for recommending - and with his team implementing - TheCityUK’s international agenda. He wrote TheCityUK’s policy for relations with other International Financial Centres. In September 2011 he signed the first agreement between TheCityUK and the Russian authorities to develop Moscow as an international financial Centre.
Although a non-Muslim he has been an advocate for Islamic Finance for a number of years. He was a member of the UK Government’s Islamic Finance Task Force and was part of the London organising committee for the 2013 WIEF meeting.
Before working in the City of London he was a diplomat employed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). In his FCO career he enjoyed several overseas postings in The Hague, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Austria, Iraq, Lesotho and France, holding a variety of jobs covering Trade Promotion, Economic policy, Political policy, Aid and Development.
In Jeddah he led on UK Trade and Economic policy in the Western region of Saudi Arabia. He was also responsible for negotiations with the Saudi Arabian religious authorities for the agreement of the first British Hajj Delegation, the first for a Western country.
A passionate believer in education he served as an adviser to the Islamic Finance faculty at the University of East London and is a trustee for a charity tackling the problems of low literacy in children and the effect this has on the whole of our community.
